Baby eats less food

Almost all mothers complain that [1] the baby is eating less than it needs. But is it really true? How do you know your child is not eating enough food? Parents never deprive children of adequate food. However, due to ignorance or not following proper procedure, children may eat less at times. For example -

  • Not understanding how many times a child needs to be fed daily. According to nutritionists, a child under one year of age should be fed at least five times a day.
  • Attempting to rush the baby to feed in less time can often lead to underfeeding.
  • If the quality of food is not right, there is a lack of nutrients. A child's diet should contain adequate amounts of carbohydrates, fats, oils and minerals.
  • No other food should be given to the baby before the age of six months. Mother's breast milk is sufficient till this age.
  • Bottle or feeder feeding can cause the baby to get mix up between the mother's breast and the bottle. As a result, reluctance to drink milk will cause the child to suffer from malnutrition.
  • If the baby is not burped by gently patting the back [1] during and before and after feeding, the baby may eat half. Normally, air passes into the stomach when babies suckle. So the burping method relax the baby and eats a little more.
  • Lack of deep bonding between mother and child [2] can lead to child malnutrition.
  • Long-term illness [3] can disrupt a child's adequate nutrition.
