Benefits and harms of litchi 

May-june month means the market is full of various fruits. However, litchi is a little different. That is why this juicy and gorgeous fruit grabs the attention of the morning. Also, its nutritional value is very high.  This fruit plays a role in preventing tumors.  This juicy fruit contains dietary energy, fiber, calcium, iron and vitamin C.  But just as excess of anything is not good, there are also dangers of consuming too much litchi. Especially on an empty stomach.


In 2012, 14 children died after eating litchi in Dinajpur, which is known as the litchi district of Bangladesh. As a result, at that time, the doctors said, "They were poisoned by the pesticide used in litchi." Later, it was confirmed by the Bangladesh Institute of Disease Control and researchers in the United States.


 However, two years later in Bihar, India, 390 children were admitted to hospital after eating litchi. A group of scientists named in the study when 122 people died. In 2017, in a survey of the international medical science journal Lan Set, they said, "They were poisoned by eating litchi on an empty stomach.


Lychee contains a chemical called hypoglycin. Which prevents the formation of sugar in the body. Eating too much litchi on an empty stomach can cause severe hypoglycemia in children and cause death.  As a result, healthy children suddenly start convulsing and vomiting. After that they become unconscious.'' Scientists say that ``many children die of poisoning by eating unripe litchi or litchi-like fruits. It was known long ago in research on Caribbean islands.

Apart from this, litchi being a hot fruit, the normal temperature of the body is lost.  As a result, it can cause sore throat and sometimes nosebleeds, nutritionists say.  So, no matter how fun it is to eat and beneficial for the body, it is not possible to eat all the fruits as desired. Experts advise to eat fruits in moderation taking into account age, illness etc.
